Abstract

|
S-Carboxymethyl cystein (S-CMC) is a blocked thiol derivative of the Amino-acid cysteine. It is a mucolytic agent with a proven role in the treatment of acute and chronic upper respiratory infection. Clinical study for the purpose of evaluating the therapeutic effect of S-Carboxymethyl cysteine (S-CMC) was carried out in 98 selected cases suffering from acute and chronic inflammations and poor post-operative states of various sites in the otolaryngological field. Results are as following: 17 cases (25.0%) cured with marked effectiveness, 38 cases (55.8%) improved much,13 cases (19.2%) showed no change. Totally 55 cases (80.8%) were effective by using of S-Carboxymethvl-cysteine (S-CMC) and no significant side reaction was appeared except 4 cases (6%) of complaining mild headache.
